How to Value My Car in China: What Is My Car Worth?

China's used car market has significant price variation by city, brand, and model generation. Using multiple sources gives the most accurate picture of current market value.

Check Active Listings on Guazi and Autohome

Search Guazi (瓜子二手车) and Autohome (汽车之家) for your exact make, model, year, mileage, and colour in your city. Active listings from the past two to three weeks give the most accurate picture of current market pricing. Prices can vary significantly between cities — use your local market.

Get an Instant Offer from a Buyback Platform

Guazi and Renrenche both offer instant valuations and buyback programmes. These are dealer buy prices — typically 15–25% below private sale value. Use them as your floor price, not your target.

Factors That Affect Chinese Car Values

  • Brand and country of origin: German brands (VW, BMW, Mercedes) and domestic Chinese brands (BYD, SAIC) have different demand profiles. Adjust expectations accordingly.
  • Mileage: Below 100,000 km is generally preferred. High-mileage vehicles (200,000+ km) face significant discounting.
  • Accident and repair history: Must be disclosed. Even minor accidents reduce value substantially.
  • New energy vehicles (NEV): EV and PHEV values vary significantly by battery health and remaining subsidy eligibility.
  • License plate restrictions: In cities with license plate restrictions (Shanghai, Beijing etc.), the plate can have significant value — clarify whether the plate transfers with the vehicle.

Annual Inspection Status

Ensure your annual inspection (年检) is current before listing. An expired inspection is a significant barrier to sale in China.
