Documents Needed to Sell a Car in Qatar: Complete Checklist

The ownership transfer process in Qatar is handled by the Ministry of Interior (MOI). Having the right documents ready avoids delays and makes the handover smooth for both parties.

Required Documents

  • Istimara (Vehicle Registration Card): Must be valid and in the seller's name.
  • QID (Qatar ID): Both seller and buyer must present valid QIDs.
  • Bank NOC: If the car is under finance, obtain a No Objection Certificate from the lender confirming the loan is paid off.
  • Valid insurance: Current insurance must be in place at the time of transfer.
  • Passport (for certain expat categories): Some residency types may require a passport in addition to QID.

Clearing Finance

If the vehicle is financed, the bank holds the Istimara. Clear the outstanding balance first and obtain the NOC — without it, the transfer cannot proceed.

The MOI Transfer

  • Both parties attend an MOI traffic department service centre.
  • Submit the Istimara, QIDs, NOC, and insurance certificate.
  • Transfer fee is paid (typically by the buyer).
  • New Istimara issued in the buyer's name on the same day.

Service History

Present your full service history — especially dealer stamps from authorised service centres. This is a significant trust signal for buyers in Qatar and supports your asking price.
