Vehicle History for Private Sellers in the UAE: What Buyers Will Check

Informed UAE buyers increasingly check vehicle history before committing. Being transparent as a seller builds trust, commands a better price, and avoids deals falling apart at the last minute.

What Buyers Check

  • Accident / insurance claims: Buyers may request a history report via CarSwitch or similar platforms that pull data from UAE insurance databases.
  • Finance encumbrance: A quick check with the bank or RTA/DMT confirms whether a loan is outstanding. Buyers will not transfer until they confirm the title is clear.
  • Paint and panel work: Any competent mechanic or used car dealer can spot repainted panels with a paint thickness gauge. Disclose any accident repairs proactively.
  • Service history: Full dealer service stamps add considerable value — especially for European brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi which have loyal followings in the UAE.
  • GCC vs export spec: Buyers will check whether the car is genuine GCC specification. Export-spec cars (originally built for other markets) are less desirable due to different cooling systems and fuel requirements.

Getting a Pre-Sale Inspection

Consider getting an independent pre-sale inspection from a reputable workshop (Al-Futtaim service centres, dedicated used car inspection services like CarSwitch or Automajlis). A clean inspection report gives buyers confidence and lets you price higher. It also prevents buyers using undiscovered issues to renegotiate on the day.

Disclosing Accident History

If the car has been in an accident, disclose it clearly in your listing. State what was repaired and by whom. Attempting to hide accident history is the most common cause of deals collapsing — and in some cases can create legal liability. Buyers who discover undisclosed damage will walk away, leave negative feedback, or claim misrepresentation.

Salik and Traffic Fines

Before selling, clear all outstanding traffic fines (check via the RTA app or Dubai Police app) and settle any unpaid Salik tolls. These can delay the transfer if the buyer discovers them — and in some cases the buyer may try to hold you responsible.
