At this price, you're generally looking at cars that are 10 to 15 years old or more, with higher mileage. Compact models from mainstream brands tend to offer the best value, since parts are easier to find and cheaper to buy. Condition and service history matter far more than age or brand at this end of the market.

Ask for the invoice (factura) and check that the car has no theft report and no outstanding tenencia (ownership tax) debt. Check the service history, and if in doubt, get the car checked by an independent mechanic before you buy.

Insurance, tenencia payments (where they apply) and the change-of-ownership registration are the main ones. On an older car, it is also worth setting aside a margin for maintenance and wear parts.
