We multiply your daily distance (km) by the EV's energy use (kWh/100km), then multiply by your electricity rate (cents/kWh). New Zealand residential electricity typically runs 28–35 cents/kWh, though off-peak overnight plans can be cheaper. NZ's largely hydro-powered grid means your EV is also extremely low-carbon.

State of Health is the percentage of original battery capacity still available. A new EV is 100% SoH; after several years it may fall to 85–90%. Below 75–80% you will notice a meaningful loss of range. Most manufacturers warrant the battery for 8 years or 160,000 km — confirm the remaining warranty when buying used.

A 7 kW home wall box adds roughly 40–50 km of range per hour. A ChargeNet DC fast charger (25–200 kW) can bring a depleted pack to 80% in 20–50 minutes depending on the car. ChargeNet's national network covers most of New Zealand's main highways.
