Poland has excellent banking infrastructure that makes private car payment straightforward. Bank transfer is the standard method for most transactions.
Bank Transfer (Przelew Bankowy)
Bank transfer is the recommended method for private car sales in Poland. Interbank transfers (Express Elixir) can be near-instant; standard SORBNET transfers settle same-day. Verify the funds appear in your account before signing the sale agreement or handing over keys.
BLIK
BLIK is Poland's most popular mobile payment system — instant and widely supported by Polish banks. Daily limits (typically PLN 1,000–5,000 per transaction) may restrict its use as the sole payment method for higher-value cars. Suitable for deposits.
Cash
Cash is commonly used in Polish private car sales, especially for lower-value vehicles. For cars over PLN 30,000, bank transfer provides a clearer audit trail and is preferred by informed buyers. If accepting cash, count it carefully.
Deposit
A deposit (zadatek, typically PLN 500–2,000) once a price is agreed is standard practice. Note that in Poland, zadatek (earnest money) is legally distinct from zaliczka (advance) — zadatek is typically non-refundable if the buyer withdraws. Be explicit about which applies.
Scams to Avoid
- Fake transfer confirmations: Always verify in your actual banking app — not on screenshots.
- Overpayment scam: Buyer sends more than agreed and asks for a refund. The original payment is fraudulent.
- Foreign buyer scam: Overseas buyer asks you to ship the vehicle before receiving full payment — always a scam.
