Swedish buyers have access to excellent vehicle history data through official registers and paid reports. Transparency is highly valued — proactive disclosure builds trust and accelerates sales.
What Buyers Check
- Transportstyrelsen register: Via the Transportstyrelsen website, buyers can check the vehicle's registration status, technical inspection history with odometer readings, and ownership count.
- Car history reports (e.g. Carfax, Vinduc): Aggregates inspection records, insurance claims, and European cross-border data. Popular for imported vehicles.
- Loan status (Kronofogden): Buyers check whether any loan or bailiff claim is registered against the vehicle via Kronofogden (Swedish Enforcement Authority). An outstanding claim is a serious deal-breaker.
- Besiktning records: Inspection results with pass/fail and odometer readings are accessible. Buyers check for mileage consistency and any failed items.
Disclosing Accident History
Sweden does not have a centralised accident database, but insurance claim records and repair history are often discoverable. Disclose all accident and major repair history — experienced buyers will find evidence during inspection.
Settle Any Loan Before Listing
If the vehicle is under a car loan (billån), settle the outstanding amount before listing. A loan registered at Kronofogden or with the lender prevents transfer and is a deal-breaker for any informed buyer.
Run the Check Yourself First
Verify your vehicle's Transportstyrelsen records before listing. Being able to confirm all inspection and registration details proactively builds buyer confidence.
