We multiply your daily miles by the EV's energy use (kWh/mile) to find the energy consumed per trip, then multiply by your electricity rate (cents/kWh). The US average residential rate is around 16 cents/kWh, though it varies significantly by state — Hawaii averages over 40 cents while Washington State is closer to 10 cents.

State of Health is the percentage of original battery capacity still available. A new EV is 100% SoH; after several years of use it may fall to 85–90%. Below 75–80% you will notice a meaningful reduction in range. Most manufacturers warrant the battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles — check the specific car's warranty terms.

A Level 2 home charger (7–11 kW) adds roughly 25–35 miles of range per hour. A DC fast charger (50–350 kW) can bring a depleted pack to 80% in 20–45 minutes depending on the car. Most US EV drivers charge overnight at home and rely on fast chargers only on road trips.
