We multiply your daily distance (km) by the EV's energy use (kWh/100km), then multiply by your electricity rate (cents/kWh). Canadian residential rates vary widely: Quebec averages around 7 cents/kWh while Ontario and Alberta are typically 14–17 cents/kWh. Winter preconditioning can add 10–20% to your energy use.

State of Health is the percentage of original battery capacity still available. A new EV is 100% SoH; after several years it may fall to 85–90%. Below 75–80% you will notice a meaningful loss of range — particularly important in Canadian winters. Most manufacturers warrant the battery for 8 years or 160,000 km.

A Level 2 home charger (7–11 kW) adds roughly 40–60 km of range per hour. A DC fast charger (50–350 kW) can bring a depleted pack to 80% in 20–45 minutes. Canada's growing network of fast chargers along the Trans-Canada Highway makes longer road trips increasingly practical.
