What to Do After Selling Your Car in Egypt: Post-Sale Checklist

Once the Traffic Department transfer is complete and payment is received, finish the sale cleanly with these final steps.

1. Confirm the Transfer Is Registered

A new registration card (استمارة) in the buyer's name confirms the transfer is official. Keep a copy of the transfer receipt for your records.

2. Cancel Your Insurance

Contact your insurer to cancel your policy or transfer it to a new vehicle. Request a refund for any unused months of coverage.

3. Address Outstanding Fines

Clear any outstanding traffic fines before the transfer if possible. Fines incurred before the official transfer date remain your legal responsibility.

4. Keep All Documents

Retain copies of the sale contract, transfer receipt from the Traffic Department, and payment records for at least two years. These protect you if any dispute arises about ownership or condition.

5. Notify Your Bank (If Finance Was Involved)

If you cleared a finance agreement as part of the sale, confirm in writing with your bank that the loan account is closed and there is no further obligation.
