What to Do After Selling Your Car in Kuwait: Post-Sale Checklist

Once the buyer has payment confirmed and the MOI transfer is complete, there are a few important steps to finish the sale cleanly.

1. Confirm the Transfer at MOI

The transfer is finalised when a new Istimara is issued in the buyer's name at the MOI traffic department. This is your confirmation that you are no longer the registered owner.

2. Cancel Your Car Insurance

Contact your insurer on the day of transfer. Cancel the policy and request a pro-rata refund for unused months, or transfer the policy to your next vehicle. Do not leave an active policy on a vehicle you no longer own.

3. Clear Outstanding Fines (If Any Remain)

Any fines incurred before the official transfer date remain your responsibility. Check the MOI traffic portal to confirm your account is clear once the transfer is registered.

4. Keep All Documents

Keep copies of the sale agreement, the MOI transfer receipt, and payment records for at least two years in case any dispute arises.
